I’m picky with sunscreens because, as you probably already know, they often contain a ton of questionable ingredients1 that I don’t want anywhere near my kids. The Environmental Working Group puts out a Safe Sunscreen Guide each year, so that’s the place to go for more info. However, if you just want to shop and go, these are my favorites.
The Sunscreens I Buy
Juice Beauty Sport Sunscreen SPF 30 is the daily sunscreen I use on my kids and my legs, chest, and arms. It does go on a little white, but it’s translucent enough for the kids not to complain. Considering that it’s rated a 1 out of 102 by the EWG it’s the one I feel the best about putting on my kids.
Juice Beauty Tinted Mineral Moisturizer in Sand SPF 30 is the one I use on my face. It has a slight tint, so it’s not white. (I use Sand but there are a couple of other shades.) I use it as my morning moisturizer and sunscreen. The tint does not give a lot of coverage, so if I’m going out an about, I use Physicians Formula InstaReady instead. The EWG gives it a one 3.
Physicians Formula Super BB InstaReady BB Cream Light SPF 30 is the one I use as a sunscreen and foundation in the morning. It goes on pretty dry though, so I use a face oil first to moisturize my skin and allow it to go on smoother. The EWG gives it a one 4.
Goddess Garden Organics Everyday Natural Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 is another good one. It does go on pretty white, so it’s not ideal as a face sunscreen, but it does the job in a pinch. I included it because it’s easy to find at stores like Wholefoods and it’s a bit cheaper than the others. The EWG gives it a one out of 105.
